 | Massachusetts Chippendale Oxbow Slant Lid Desk | | Item Number: 99037 This is a beautiful period Chippendale ball and claw foot slant lid desk. The top drawer has an oxbow shaped drawer front and all drawers have a double serpentine shape. The finish and hardware are original to the desk. The desk is from Massachusetts. The claw and ball feet are finely sculptured with knobby knuckles and swept-back (retractable) talons. The interior drawers have three beautifully carved shell patterns on the fronts with document drawers flanking the center door. The circa date is 1780.

The trophy shaped back splat is decorated on the left and right sides with a leaf carving. This outstanding chair has a balloon shaped seat covered with very old needlepoint. It is in exceptional "as found" condition with only minor repairs. The well defined front cabriole legs have shell carvings at the top and end in carved trifid Drake feet. The gracefully carved arms end with extremely detailed carved eagles´ heads.
